STARS ON ICE GARNERS FIRST CANADIAN SCREEN AWARD NOMINATION
The world's premier figure skating production, Investors Group Stars on Ice presented by Lindt, has been nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in the category of Best Entertainment Special. The nomination is for the one-hour television special that aired nationally on CBC in December 2013 featuring a 2013 tour performance at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, ON.
The TV special featured performances headlined by three-time World Champion and 2014 Olympic Silver Medallist Patrick Chan, and 2010 Olympic Gold Medallists and two-time World Champions Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir.
Performances were choreographed featuring some of the most popular chart topping songs as well as beloved classics. Highlights included:
• Gotye’s “Somebody that I Used to Know” is a show stopping cast ensemble performance
• Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir demonstrating why they are Olympic Champions, taking Ice Dancing to a whole new level with the hauntingly beautiful “Stay” by Rihanna offering the perfect backdrop
• Canadian skating icon Jeffrey Buttle lifting the Velvet Fog during a jazzy jaunt around the ice to Mel Tormé’s “Just in Time”
• It’s hard to imagine “Singin’ in the Rain” when it’s done on ice, but when you team Kurt Browning with Gene Kelly, anything is possible
The Canadian Screen Awards will air nationally on March 1, 2015 at 8pm (8:30 NT) on CBC. This year’s Investors Group Stars on Ice presented by Lindt tour is a special 25th Anniversary Tour that will visit 12 cities nationwide beginning in Halifax, NS on Friday, May 1st and wrapping up in Vancouver, BC on Thursday, May 21st.
